Risking Ours Saving Yours

Keeping Kids Safe

Here are a two videos that we show to the kids at the elementary school during our fire safety training. The first video is great for younger kids. It teaches them what they should do in a fire as well as some prevention techniques. The second talks at a higher grade level and is better for 4th, 5th and 6th graders.

We'd also like you as parents to be aware that kids don't hear smoke alarms very well at night. Also please be aware that some types of smoke alarms may work better than others depending on the type of fire. These videos highlight these problems. There are some newer voice smoke alarms and they may be better but it still looks like mom or dad's voice works best at waking kids up.

This is a video of a mom testing whether or not her kids hear the smoke alarm. What's the result? Hint: they sleep right through it. But when their mom yells at them to wake up, they finally start to stir.

This is a video from a guy who's house burned down because of improperly disposed 9V batteries from his smoke detector.
